Why France?

Bonsoir! In case you haven’t checked out our About Us page, I’ll give you a quick synopsis. I’m Toni, my husband is Carlos and we have three littles. We’re crazy enough to be planning a move to France from the U.S. in the very near future. Once there, we will be searching for all the best family-friendly places and events while keeping you up to date on our adventures and even our misfortunes.

There’s not enough coffee in the world to get me through my checklist…

I have a binder of paperwork and lists and articles I’ve found. It’s so intimidating in the beginning. Sometimes I hit a point that makes me second guess the whole damn thing. That’s when I step back for a day or so. There’s still time.

The first year of this blog will be just that; Research and advice to help anyone hoping to uproot and start their own adventure. We’re moving to France and there is a mountain of paper work, constant obstacles, and some catch-22s that I have no idea how to get past. Hopefully by sharing our journey I can help, or even just give a glimmer of hope that it is possible.

Our family of five will be leaving next year (if all goes according to plan), and we couldn’t be more excited! And terrified! Ok so our littles are four, three and 11 months. They couldn’t care less.

So, why France? Well, there was plenty of research in that decision too. We started out thinking about The Netherlands. Ultimately, France pulled us in. Here’s a infographic that sums it up without getting into too much detail.

Sounds pretty good, right? So we’re starting there. Who knows where we’ll end up, but living in France will give us easy access for traveling all around Europe. We are in the process of planning a short trip to France this year to pick a location. We’ve narrowed it down to the Lyon area or the Aix-en-Provence area. We will see!

So, there it is. My first ever blog post. Who knows what will come. I’m hoping that all of the tedious paperwork will go smoothly. Hopefully I can help a few people along the way. For now, I have my wine or coffee depending on the time of day, and I have my keyboard. I’ll keep you updated as much as possible between feeding snacks and navigating tantrums.

Au revoir!
